Renew Gold Senior™ is an extruded pellet product that is designed to provide a broad spectrum of nutritional support to horses that experience common issues associated with the effects of aging, high stress or prior injury. What are the unique benefits? There are a number of applications for this product for both senior aged horses, and performance horses that are under high stress or have had a structural injury.

This product provides high digestible energy while maintaining controlled starch levels. Digestible energy is 1.8 Mcal/ pound with a fat level of 16.5% and a Starch level of 15%. The total starch contribution to the diet at recommended feed rates is approximately 34 grams to 68 grams per day based on the one half pound to one pound daily feeding recommendation. The starch structure of this product has been altered by the extrusion process, ensuring that it can be more completely digested higher in the system than starches presented to the digestive system in unaltered forms.

Diets designed around the use of this product, compared to those using higher grain based concentrates, can improve the horses’ digestive efficiency and eliminate the disruption caused by the combination of too much starch in the diet, and that starch traveling too far down the digestive tract. Quality protein at a level of 17.5%, supports the overall amino acid profile, provides building blocks for fast recovery from heavy use, tissue repair and maintenance, and encourages better body condition as a horse ages.

 

Four forms of vegetable fat provide a dense calorie source that is available from different digestive processes that do not conflict with each other. In addition to this easily digestible energy, the medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil have been shown to provide anti-bacterial and anti-fungal processes high in the system. The vegetable fat from Stabilized Flax is high in Omega 3 fatty acids, and that found in the Stabilized Rice bran is one of nature’s most potent sources of natural Vitamin E and Gamma Oryzanol. Also present in this formulation is a toxin binder, a pre-biotic and a natural parasite inhibitor. All three work in combination to give the most support possible to efficient hind gut function. The result is a better supported immune system and fully functioning hind gut.

 

This in turn provides maximum efficiency in the digestion of the roughage portion of the diet and provides the safest and most natural source of energy that a horse can have. This efficiency captures more of the nutrition locked in the roughage, and that means that other sources of energy become less necessary for the overall needs of the horse. Being able to lower concentrate feeds that are now not necessary can bring the entire system into a more efficient and natural function. Both senior aged horses and high stress younger performance horses may benefit from joint health support.

 

It is clear that there is value in supporting the proper production and quality of joint fluids in performance horses, reducing inflammation, and easing the discomfort from years of use in senior aged horses. To this end, a unique approach is taken in this product.
